"A continued involvement by the United States will lead to the stability and prosperity (of the Asia-Pacific region) and have economic and security advantages for the United States," ADB president told a symposium in Tokyo. Touching on the Asian economy, Mr Nakao said while the Chinese economy has been decelerating, "Taken as a whole, the theory of a long-term deceleration is not applicable in Asia. He said countries such as India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam possess great potential to push up the whole Asian economy in the future. On speculation about a US interest rate hike within the year, he shrugged off concerns about capital flight from Asia. "Rather than focusing on expanding member states, it is better to include states with a strong will and capacity," to support Asian economic development, he said.
